Outdoor Emergency Transportation (OET) Program Mission Statement

OET’s mission is to create an environment of learning that elevates the skills, ability, and techniques needed to safely transport guests to a higher level of care.

The Outdoor Emergency Transportation (OET) program provides NSP members with on snow training for skiing, riding, telemark and toboggan handling skills. Our mission is to provide membership with credentialed education and leadership training in outdoor emergency transportation. Training is provided at local mountains, regional clinics, and division Patroller Schools (PatrollerSchool.org).

Patrollers interested in becoming toboggain instructors should complete the following steps:

  1. Complete the Instructor Development course.
  2. Work with any current OET instructor as your mentor to complete 2-3 teaching observations that get recorded on your Mentoring Form.
  3. Once your mentoring observations are complete, coordinate with a region IT (Chris Morrell or Scott Wilson) for an IT observation. This is easiest to complete at a TTW event.
  4. Complete the Instructor Application and submit both your Instructor Application and your Mentoring form to the Region OET Advisor. This must be completed by 1 March so that paperwork can get to Division in time for the annual submission.
